The Kitchen Sink

One of my favorite changes we have made to our home here in the Deep South is that we replaced our sink.  I don't have a before shot, but it was a standard, contractor-grade double sink.  You know, the kind with a divider in it.  Having two sections was a huge pain when it came to washing my giganto skillet, as well as non-traditional sink uses, like bathing  the baby.  Two sections are probably very useful if you don't have a dishwasher or if you have a ton of hand-washable items.  But, it was a nice upgrade for the way I do dishes to have a single basin.  My sweet husband bought and installed it while I was away with the kids.  He knew that I'd like a new sink, but it was not on The List.  Nice. A total surprise!

Isn't it shiny?  (I totally shined it for the photo.  I mean, I end the day with a clean, empty sink 95% of the time, ala Flylady.  But, this photo was taken just after grinding up and flushing down breakfast remnants.)

Now its time for your amazingly clever bonus home organization tip.  I asked my husband recently to install a couple of hooks into the sides of the cabinet so that I could toss a hand towel up there.  Before that, the towel lived on the oven handle, which meant that wet hands dripped water all over the floor when turning around from the sink to the stove.

I knew I'd only put one towel up there, so I figured the other hook would be used for random stuff, if needed.  Most of the time, nothing is there.

Lately, though, I have been putting my son's lunch bag up there to remind me to pack his lunch for preschool.  Its a new routine for me to regularly pack a lunch, so it helps to have the visual reminder.  Its not like having a lunch bag is great decor, but hey, this blog is about order and this helps me to be more efficient.

Got any kitchen order tips to share?  Do dish!  Ha.
